FAQs

Do I need an appointment for lab work?
No, this is a first come, first serve facility.

What information will I need to have my lab work done?
You will need a current insurance card and orders/prescription for labs from your provider.

What does "fasting" mean? Do I have to fast for all of my lab work?
Fasting means that you should refrain from eating 8-10 hours prior to having your lab work completed. You may drink water and/or black coffee. Your provider should tell you whether or not they want you to fast for the ordered blood work.

Do you accept my insurance?
Because we are a "draw station," we are not limited as to the type of insurances that we accept, although there are a few exceptions. Your insurance companies have contracts with specific reference labs, and that is how we decide where to send your lab work.

Does my insurance cover my lab work?
For the most part, lab work is covered. There are always exceptions. Medicare is very particular about preventive care lab work and often will deny payment of any "experimental or research" use tests. If your provider orders lab work, ensure that he or she supports those tests with appropriate diagnosis codes to avoid receiving a bill from the laboratory.

Can I request lab work on my own? Can I add lab work to my current order?
All blood work must be ordered by a provider, even if you are willing to pay out-of-pocket for the tests. If you would like to have a certain test done, make sure to ask your provider during your visit. We cannot add lab work to your order unless your provider approves the request.

Should I stop taking my medication before my lab work is completed?Unless otherwise instructed by your provider, you should continue taking your medication as you normally would. If you do have questions, you should contact your provider's office.

When will my provider receive my lab results?
The turn around time for your provider's office to receive lab results varies. Depending on the type of test(s), reporting time could range from 24 hours to one week.

What if my provider's office does not receive my lab results?
You will receive a yellow card showing where your labs have been sent, along with the number to that reference lab. You or your provider can call that reference lab to request results be faxed to the provider's office.

Can I have a copy of my labs sent to another provider, or can I have a copy of my labs?
Your provider must include directions in the lab order to send the results to another provider or directly to you.

Is it normal to get a bruise after a blood test?
It is normal for the needle to leave a small mark and small bruise. If you are experiencing any discomfort you should apply a cold compress to the site for approximately 10-15 min. If this does not remedy the discomfort, please contact our office.
